MeMo “Memory of Montecassino,” awarded by the Ministry of University and Research as a project of Relevant National Interest (PRIN 2020), is the brainchid of professors and experts of the Laboratory “LIBeR. Libro e Ricerca” of the Department of Humanities of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio. The main goal is to offer greater scholarly visibility to the heritage preserved in the Archive and Library of the National Monument of Montecassino, as well as to promote free use and adequate accessibility to manuscripts and documents preserved in the Abbey, through an intensive digitization campaign.

The collaboration with the institutions of Sapienza University of Rome and of the University of Catania and the partnerships with regional, national and European research institutions were aimed at ensuring free access to medieval manuscripts and documents through the creation of an integrated, open and expandable digital library that combines scholarly descriptions with image acquisition. In fact, the portal aims to increase and promote the enjoyment of library heritage by drawing the attention of diversified and not only specialized audiences, to compare artifacts of different nature through metadata. Another key objective is to provide virtual exhibitions and educational itineraries. and to experiment new technologies for the representation and long-term preservation of cultural heritage in a digital environment.
